According to a recent Reuters article, the onset of the coronavirus pandemic saw a sharp worldwide surge in home gardening, with the demand for vegetable and fruit seeds hitting an all-time high. Now as the world begins to reopen, others will be just as eager to get back outside and enjoy all their favorite outdoor hobbies. However, these activities can leave hands dirty, rough, and in need of restorative care. 

We’ve formulated this skin care duo to serve as inspiration for your new product development.

Our Gardener’s Foaming Hand Scrub helps lift dirt out of cracks and crevices. Our Gardener’s Hand & Cuticle Balm then restores moisture and leaves hands feeling soft and smooth. Both formulations require minimal preparation and production time. They can be easily adapted to small and large batch sizes, and readily modified.

Shelf Life & Stability
The formulations featured on The Natural Beauty Workshop have not been challenge tested for stability or for the confirmation of their shelf life. The finished products may not be suitable for commercial sale without modification or inclusion of a preservative system. Gardener’s Foaming Hand Scrub

Our first formulation owes its bubbly cleansing power to our gentle Liquid Castile Soap Base, made with emollient organic jojoba and healing aloe vera. We enhanced the moisturizing properties by adding two of our favorite certified organic skin care ingredients: Organic Virgin Coconut Oil and Organic Olive Oil. Both oils help to moisturize and soften rough skin.

We built upon the scrub’s foundation by incorporating Nilotica Shea Butter and Murumuru Butter. Both butters feature a desirable, semi-soft consistency. They are also rich in beneficial saturated fatty acids that help protect overworked skin.

Turbinado Sugar and Walnut Shell Powder add mild exfoliation while lending a natural earthy color to this scrub. Our vibrant Jojoba Wax Beads help with additional buffing, and they add a pop of color to the finished product.

Finally, we scented our scrub with a warm, uplifting blend of Organic Sweet Orange and Fresh, Sweet Ginger Essential Oils. This formulation can be easily adapted to meet your clients’ fragrance needs by substituting any of our Essential Oils, CO2 Extracts, Plant-Based Fragrance Oils or Fragrance Oils.

Gardener’s Foaming Hand Scrub Formulation

Procedure

1. Combine Phase A in a double boiler and gently heat until fully melted 
2. Remove from heat and allow mixture to cool slightly
3. Add Phase B into melted Phase A 
4. Slowly add and fold Phase C into cooled, melted Phase A and B until fully incorporated
5. Stir in Phase D into the other Phases already combined, and mix well
6. Once completely blended, dispense into your containers 

Application

Massage onto hands and fingers, then rinse.

16 gr Organic Nilotica Shea
16 gr Murumuru Butter
32 gr ​Liquid Castile Soap (Made with Organic)
143 gr Turbinado Sugar
16 gr Walnut Shell Powder, Fine
1 gr Sweet Honey Jojoba Wax Beads
1 gr Red Jojoba Wax Beads
1 gr Organic Sweet Orange Essential Oil
.50 gr Fresh, Sweet Ginger Essential Oil

Gardener’s Hand & Cuticle Balm

We carefully selected the lipids for this formulation based upon their ability to moisturize and protect dry, chafed hands. Our Mango Butter is an especially creamy and velvety butter that absorbs well and leaves the skin looking and feeling hydrated. Cocoa Butter is a favored natural emollient that has been used to help soothe and moisturize skin for generations. We chose Deodorized Cocoa Butter for this formulation. However, you can modify the aromatic profile of your final product by substituting it with our Organic Pure Prime Pressed Cocoa Butter instead. Our Organic Tigernut Oil is an emollient and highly penetrating oil with a desirable texture. Both our Organic Tigernut Oil and Vitamin E 400 IU Oil  boasts a significant level of tocopherols that can help to support and protect the skin.

The Gardener’s Hand & Cuticle Balm owes its naturally golden honey hue to Organic Natural Beeswax Pastilles and to the carotene content of Helio Carrot Root CO2 Total Extract. This extract’s subtly sweet aroma lends a complementary heart note to the herbaceous, fresh blend of Organic Lavender and Tangerine Essentials Oils. Helio Carrot Root CO2 Total Extract would also pair nicely with another citrus essential oil or our Fresh, Sweet Ginger Essential Oil.

Gardener’s Hand & Cuticle Balm Formulation

Procedure

1. Add Phase A to a double boiler and heat until fully melted; remove from heat and allow mixture to cool slightly
2. Bring Helio Carrot Root CO2 Total to a liquid state by placing the bottle in warm water; add to the rest of Phase B ingredients
3. Combine Phases A and B; stir well
4. Add Phase C and mix all phases thoroughly
5. Pour into your containers and let cool for 24 hours before capping

Application

Smooth onto skin and cuticles, massaging until absorbed.

23 gr Deodorized Cocoa Butter
23 gr Organic Natural Beeswax Pastilles
34 gr Mango Butter
24 gr Organic ​​Tigernut Oil
5 gr Vitamin E 400 IU Oil, Non-GMO (Tocopherol)
5 gr Helio Carrot Root CO2 Total Extract
1 gr Organic Lavandin Abrialis Essential Oil, France
1 gr Tangerine Essential Oil
